The ITF Seafarers is a platform that is a part of the ITF (the International Transport Workers’ Federation), dedicated to all water transport workers around the world. From maritime news and being informed on the workers’ rights to contacting ITF staff in case of emergency, the ITF Seafarers is a one-of-a-kind information hub for all maritime workers.
About the project
Exceptional content management and organization
Being an information hub where maritime workers can find the latest information and relevant news, the ITF Seafarers website needed to have an impressive content management and organization system. In addition to this, such a website has a great number of writers, editors, publishers and administrators and all of these roles required a separate set of permissions, so thanks to Drupal and its excellent content organization options, the team managed to fulfil the needs of the ITF.
Multi-language website for users all around the world
The ITF Seafarers website takes pride in helping workers understand and know their rights (employment rights, legal rights, trade union rights, and human rights), which is why they needed a multi-language website. The available languages therefore include English, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Burmese, Tagalog and Turkish.
Flawless website performance
Having such a large website, where content is added on a daily basis, required a flawless website performance. Drupal allowed the team to achieve this while also enhancing user-experience for anyone visiting the website.
HTML option for users without WiFi
Maritime workers may not have fast WiFi or they may not have WiFi at all. If such a situation happens, the team prepared a Slow or no Wifi option that users can use to access the website in its simplest HTML form. In this way, the visitors don’t have to worry about WiFi or data usage when they are faced with these issues.
Why Drupal was chosen
The ITF Seafarers project demanded a powerful Content Management System to support the efforts of the ITF employees who wanted to be able to add content on a daily basis. In addition to this, the chosen technology had to provide excellent content organization and management of content writers and editors.
