CMS Migration | Site factory
Our client, a key player in the time management and measurement industry, sought to modernize its digital ecosystem. The existing website, built on an outdated CMS, no longer met the security, performance, scalability, or multisite management needs. To address these challenges, the client chose Drupal over WordPress for its scalability, flexibility, and its ability to deploy a multisite solution tailored to its international network.
About the project
Project Challenges
The primary challenge was to migrate the entire site while maintaining the existing design and ensuring a seamless user experience. The goal was to faithfully replicate the design while modernizing the underlying infrastructure with Drupal. Additionally, the client required a solution to centralize the management of its international websites while allowing each entity to maintain a degree of visual autonomy with customized themes.
Solutions Provided
- Migration to Drupal while preserving the existing design
We successfully executed a complete migration of the site from the outdated CMS, maintaining the design as-is, while taking advantage of Drupal's performance and content management capabilities.
- Creation of a site factory with customized child themes
We developed a site factory using Drupal, allowing the client to manage an international network of websites. Each site in the factory features a custom child theme, providing visual flexibility while remaining part of a centralized, easy-to-manage infrastructure.
- Development of a reusable block library
To simplify content creation and management, we built a library of over 40 reusable blocks using the Paragraphs module. This library enables the client’s teams to quickly and efficiently create new pages using modular elements adaptable to different needs.
Results and Benefits
- Scalability and flexibility: Thanks to the implementation of the site factory, the client can now deploy new sites quickly, with centralized and optimized maintenance costs.
- Streamlined content management: The use of the block library with Paragraphs allows the client’s teams to create and modify content without requiring technical development, simplifying site management.
- Visual consistency with local autonomy: Each site in the site factory benefits from a customized theme, ensuring overall visual coherence while allowing for local adaptations.
Why Drupal was chosen
The client chose Drupal for its recognized strengths: scalability, flexibility, and its ability to manage large multisite ecosystems. Drupal’s flexibility enabled the integration of custom features while ensuring centralized yet adaptable management of the sites. Drupal was the ideal solution to meet the modernization needs while respecting the unique project requirements.
