Sport England chose Cyber-Duck as the partner to consolidate its multiple websites, with a wealth of content and audiences, into a single B2B platform. Cyber-Duck applied a data-driven, user-centred approach to create a vibrant website that powerfully communicates their mission to a specific target audience.

About the project

Sport England aims to encourage everyone in the UK to become and stay active. From its 'Towards an Active Nation' strategy, Sport England discovered that its current website didn't communicate this mission as well as it could. This was because it was trying to be 'all things for all users'.

Drawing on its track-record with public bodies like the Bank of England and Financial Ombudsman Service, Cyber-Duck was chosen to apply its user-centred approach to create a single digital platform. The objectives were to:

  • Define the content architecture, governance and migration strategies
  • Develop an intuitive, easy to use, robust and scalable website CMS

Cyber-Duck brought Sport England's website to life with effective and engaging design that met the need of their target audiences. Our implementation of a powerful user experience strategy, content strategy and agile website design and development on Drupal CMS ensured that content was not only beautifully presented but usable and made navigation significantly easier.

Cyber-Duck kept Sport England's overarching mission, to support their users, at the forefront of the project – key statistics:

We're looking forward to updating Sport England's new website to Drupal 9 by the end of 2021.

Why Drupal was chosen

Following a CMS feasibility audit, we recommended our team build the website with Drupal 8. Drupal was selected due to its scalability, compatibility and sophistication with building secure, complex and content-rich websites at an enterprise level.

We were able to apply Drupal's layout builder modules to develop intuitive custom solutions for our client's needs. Additionally, Drupal CMS empowers the client to manage the website themselves – such as being able to change site menus and create content taxonomies. Cyber-Duck was able to include API integrations to our modules, specifically the imin Platform Search API, which was used to create an online activity list.

Drupal provides our team with the core functionalities needed (in addition to other functionalities provided by the talented Drupal community). These functions include: available media library which allows for easy asset management; security updates every week for core and contributed modules which ensures the security of the website; and an efficient cache system which results in a better functioning, fast-loading website.
