Why Drupal was chosen
Drupal was selected for the Borgorete project after evaluating several content management systems including WordPress, Joomla, and custom-built solutions. The decision to choose Drupal was based on several key factors:
Flexibility and scalability: Borgorete manages nearly 30 different services, projects, and initiatives, requiring a CMS that could handle diverse content types and complex organizational structures. Drupal's modular architecture and content modeling capabilities provided the flexibility needed to represent various program categories, from mental health services to educational initiatives.
Community-focused features: Drupal's built-in user management, role-based permissions, and community features aligned perfectly with Borgorete's cooperative model and need to engage with multiple stakeholder groups including cooperators, beneficiaries, and community partners.
Cost-effectiveness: As a non-profit organization, the open-source nature of Drupal provided significant cost savings compared to proprietary solutions while still delivering enterprise-level functionality.
