About the project

Headless or Decoupled Drupal (Especially for Enterprise CMS projects) โœ”

Previously, a CMS was only used to manage a website, but requirements have now increased.

  • Multiple websites
  • apps for smartphones and tablets
  • Alexa, Apple Homepod, Google home & Co.

Modern content management systems are designed to serve a wide range of media, output channels and formats or to supply them with adapted content.

While a state-of-the-art content management system usually also includes the frontend, a headless CMS consists exclusively of a backend and a database. The information in the database is accessed via APIs / interfaces that replace the classic frontend and allow access to it through a variety of programming languages.

Drupal provides a convenient interface for managing content and exposes it through REST or GraphQL web services.

Separating content management from the presentation of the content โœ”

Managing content in a decoupled Drupal CMS offers considerable flexibility, performance and scalability benefits, especially in the international enterprise environment. By implementing a centralized content pool, editors are provided with an easy way of maintaining content across multiple platforms. This content can be displayed on any frontend. The development of the frontends takes place independently of the backend with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React or AngularJS.

Why Drupal was chosen

We have used Drupal previously on various projects and know how to create customized websites that really fit our customer's needs. Drupal 8 is certainly a powerful tool for web-based content management and provides great features for broadcasting station websites.

We also had to make sure to choose a framework flexible enough to fully accommodate the complex business logic we had to deal with in this project.

Key modules/theme/distribution used:

Why these modules/theme/distribution were chosen

PARAGRAPHS
This module provides flexibility to associate data with a node in terms of frontend positioning and variants in different fields. It is a wonderful module for a multi-tenant website to have individual homepages or landing pages with different layouts and fields variants.

WEBFORMS
Webform is the module for making forms and surveys in Drupal. After a submission customizable e-mails can be sent to administrators and/or submitters. Results can be exported into Excel or other spreadsheet applications. Webform also provides some basic statistical review and has an extensive API for expanding its features.
