As car shows are cancelled and test drives are limited, car manufacturers and people who are looking for a car are left out in the cold. With HLN Drive, DPG Media decided to help them out. This Drupal platform functions as an online car show where car manufacturers give their sales a boost and where visitors find all the information they need in the showroom and car selector.

About the project

It was important that HLN Drive matched the styleguide of Het Laatste Nieuws but had an identity of its own. Therefore we held design workshops to define imagery, typography and style and translate that into a strong design.

Also the building blocks of the platform received the necessary attention. Examples of internal designs of other platforms at DPG Media were collected, as well as ideas from external websites. The typography and imagery of those examples were compared to one another to answer the question: “what design fits this new brand the best”?

To be able to shift gears quickly, the design team already worked on structural designs. This meant creating wireframes based on input from the design workshops. Those wireframes gave shape to the layout of the new Drupal platform which the team at DPG Media then used to get an idea of the look and feel. Their feedback was then used to create a clickable prototype.

Showroom and car selector guide visitors

More than 420 cars needed to be incorporated. An online showroom houses all these cars for visitors to browse through with filters, titles and fields. Whether you are a car enthusiast or just someone looking to replace your old car, HLN Drive has just the offer for you.

Based on input from HLN Fleet and Fangio, an intelligent multi step form was created. The car selector uses this form to calculate what car fits the needs of the visitor. Each answer influences the selection of cars that will appear.

The goal of HLN Drive is to always give a trustworthy and unbiased selection even though car manufacturers can sponsor their cars on the platform as HLN Drive was always meant to serve two groups, car manufacturers and people looking for a new car. 
 

Why Drupal was chosen

Since the deadline was tight and other platforms of DPG Media are already running on the Drupal CMS, the choice was easily made. Drupal was chosen for its efficiency and flexibility. It gives the team behind HLN Drive the right tools to work smart and agile. This enables them to support the car manufacturing industry and match visitors with a car that fits their needs.
