The eNotary portal is an internal platform only accessible for notaries and their employees, Fednot-employees and some external partners.
The portal is part of their day-to-day work and provides access to all needed applications, tons of legal and corporate content and notary news.
About the project
The eNotary site is a multilingual and business-critical application used by all notary offices in Belgium. It provides access to all daily used applications and to a vast knowledge base of organizational and legal information.
Development of the site happened in 2019-2020 but was based on a study executed in 2016 by Namahn. This study, together with designs from KANdesign provided our team with all necessary information to intitiate this development track.
The application integrates with an existing SSO solution at Fednot enabling access to all employees and notaries on an existing role-based level. Also specific extra roles were defined to allow specific access to regional and corporate parts of the portal and specific editorial rights for these sections.
Most important sections in this portal are
- News
- Application overview
-
Thematical search
- General search and advanced search
- Juridical library
- ...
An important part of the project was also the migration of all the data and files from the old system to the new Drupal portal. This was a huge task as content-structures completely changed and resources for data were scattered and in different formats (database, XML, CSV, API). Our structured approach made sure all content was migrated into new content-types, paragraphs and media-items preserving their internal relationships. The multilingual setup added another level of complexity.
The project went live just before the Covid-19 pandemic and as such supported Fednot in a new and foremost digital way of working. In the meantime our services-team provides further support on change-requests and updates ensuring continuity and stability of the platform.
Why Drupal was chosen
Our client asked for an open-source, robust and future proof platform without vendor lock-in and with enough flexibility to support the organization specific requirements.

The website heavily depends on paragraphs for a consistent structure and on search API and Elasticsearch for all search-related functionality. The hosting is fully redundant so also a Redis DB-cache cluster is used on top of a master/slave database.
