Lemberg Solutions engineers made a patch that addresses the cloning issue, ensuring that deleting a cloned page no longer results in a fatal error on the original page.

We’ve also fixed an error that occurred on the Shorthand Story add/edit page after a previously uploaded story was deleted from the Shorthand platform. Our team has identified the root cause — a missing external story link — and implemented a fix that correctly handles such cases.

This fix prevents fatal errors from occurring for editors and ensures stable integration with third-party storytelling tools.

We have shared these solutions with the Drupal community, and others have successfully used them since then.

Faced with the limitations of an outdated platform, Syngenta decided to rebuild its website using a new version of Drupal. During the development process, our team focused on creating a dynamic, user-centered website with reusable components. Since its launch, the company website has made content creation seamless - ensuring effective communication with a global audience.

About the project

Client’s challenges

For Syngenta, the corporate website is one of the primary communication channels with farmers around the world. Yet, their website on Drupal 8 was no longer fit for this purpose due to difficult maintenance.

If one thing was changed, the whole system toppled like dominoes,” said Barbara Bekalska, Global Digital Manager at Syngenta Group.

Therefore, the company aimed to develop a dynamic website using the new version of Drupal, enabling them to engage smoothly with their global audience.

The process

We wanted the new website to maintain a similar structure and overall feel but with distinct styling elements that differentiate it from the affiliate website,” said Barbara Bekalska.

With this in mind, she turned to the Drupal development team at Lemberg Solutions. The design was already finalized — now, the development process was the next crucial step to be taken.

Within six months, the project went through two main phases: core website development and contact form implementation. Before launching the website, the Lemberg Solutions team carried out rigorous user testing to ensure everything works as expected.

Core website development

As a company with branches worldwide, Syngenta requires a consistent and responsive website functionality. Thus, Syngenta’s website is built on reusable components, enabling content managers to quickly and independently create or edit engaging pages. To prevent errors, content managers now receive a warning before press releases are published or scheduled. Further enhancing efficiency and user experience, we developed an effortless sign-up for press release notifications for Syngenta’s audience.

Contact form implementation

To communicate effectively with their customers, Syngenta needed a user-friendly and seamless reach-out section. That’s why their existing contact form received a complete upgrade — clean design, seamless third-party integration, and flawless functionality.

Value delivered

With the website now live, the Syngenta team is already observing positive shifts. “Page update time has sped up so much that our team can manage two websites simultaneously,” said Barbara Bekalska. The website improvements led to:

  • Enhanced user experience and SEO. Desktop loading time decreased by 65%, while mobile loading time decreased by 70%

  • Better usability. The new design and content architecture make website navigation intuitive for content managers and users

  • Faster content management. Syngeta’s marketing team can now update more content and have greater flexibility in what they publish.

Why Drupal was chosen

Drupal was an excellent choice for its reliability and high performance. The Syngenta team emphasized the need for an intuitive content management system that would allow them to update pages and create content with ease.

Drupal provides robust multilingual support, enterprise-grade security, and a highly flexible architecture that can be easily customized to meet complex enterprise requirements. Its active open source community and rich ecosystem of modules make it ideal for scalable, long-term digital solutions. These advantages make Drupal ideal for building a global platform that is easy to edit and technically robust.

Why these modules/theme/distribution were chosen

The selected modules reflect Syngenta Group’s need for a scalable, secure, and editor-friendly corporate website. The component-based approach using paragraphs, layout builder, and custom blocks allows marketing teams to create and manage flexible layouts without the involvement of a developer.

To improve flexibility in content creation and editing, modules such as layout_builder_browser, layout_builder_modal, and layout_builder_restrictions were used, which allow categorization, management of individual components and sections, and implementing a component-oriented approach.

Twig Tweak significantly simplifies the logic of theme creation and rendering, while Pathauto, Metatag, Redirect, and Simple XML Sitemap provide a solid SEO foundation.

Content security and editorial flexibility are supported by trash (for restoring deleted content) and entity_clone (for easy duplication of content). Recaptcha protects all forms, whether custom or webform-based, to ensure a stable user-company feedback process.

The search functionality is powered by search_api, which offers robust indexing and filtering. External links are automatically detected using extlink, improving usability and accessibility.

Gin theme was chosen because it is a modern Drupal admin theme that is widely chosen for its stylish interface, dark mode support, and easy-to-use content editors. Built on Claro, it significantly improves functionality with its own Gin dashboard, which offers improved navigation and seamless integration with Layout Builder, Media Library, and other modules. Actively supported by the community, Gin is easily extensible and provides a user-friendly workflow for both content managers and developers.

Themekit is a custom theme developed as a sub-theme of the base Classy theme, providing the flexibility to override templates without unnecessary overhead. We chose this approach because it offers a clean and stable foundation for further development, maintains a well-structured HTML output, and easily adapts to the client’s needs.

Together, these modules support a modern, multilingual, and high-performance Drupal 10 platform, tailored to the needs of the enterprise company.
