Organizations Involved

Team CCF wanted to migrate to Drupal to build a centralized, scalable & unified web platform for hassle-free microsite management while improving website performance significantly

Founded in 1967, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation is a volunteer-driven non-profit organization that strives to find cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, the most common forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). They aim to improve the quality of life of those affected by the disease.

The foundation empowers more than 1.2 million patients and their caregivers annually through their education, support, and advocacy programs.

About the project

Requirements

The foundation wanted to:

  • Migrate from Blackbaud CMS to Drupal along with existing structured & unstructured content
  • Manage their digital assets seamlessly
  • Customize workflows to meet the changing business requirements

Project goals

  • Replace their existing Blackbaud CMS to avoid the recurring licensing cost
  • Swift latch on to Drupal for centralized management of multiple websites under one roof  & boost users’ experiences
  • Easy management of digital assets & a customized workflow to meet business requirements
  • Stringent deadlines to ensure a smooth & timely migration of the existing content(structured & unstructured)

The Solution

  • Faster development & deployment of platform to bring all the microsites under one umbrella
  • Improved authoring experience of editors to create, review, & publish content hassle-free
  • Improved content visibility to boost organic rankings on the search engines
  • Followed the best coding practices standards religiously to keep the code clean, simple, and easy-to-read for continuous inspection of code quality.
  • Improved the website performance significantly and drew traffic to keep visitors engaged.
  • Hassle-free management of the development process, and smooth deployment workflow, to meet their growing demand while managing the microsites under one umbrella.
  • User-based access for seamless content management by different stakeholders thus overcoming geographical silos.

Project Success

With the right mix of skills, knowledge, and creativity, the Srijan team and the Foundation team could successfully migrate multiple microsites within the specified timeline. The key benefits that the client gained from this collaboration were-

  • A unified view of their content with uniform themes and structure; efficient content management with role-based user access; and faster time-to-market content with reusable components.
  • The end-to-end process for creating, reviewing, editing, and publishing content saved a lot of time and simultaneously reduced editors’ dependency on developers significantly.
  • Post-migration, pages per session for one of the micro-sites doubled; and the overall bounce rate was reduced by 24% year over year.
  • Owing to enhanced content visibility and better search via keywords, end-users could now successfully access content swiftly.
  • Acquia SOLR suggested content recommendations to visitors, thereby increasing their time on the website and improving the digital experience.
  • Reduced the cost of maintenance as well as ensured business scaling for CCF even if the number of projects increases drastically.

Why Drupal was chosen

The Foundation had chosen Drupal as their digital experience platform because of its capability to:

  • Centralize the management of all microsites
  • Provide a scalable & future-proof platform
  • Improve website performance drastically
  • Empower non-developers to create website pages on the go even for faster content generation & delivery.
