The Benelux Office of Intellectual Property (BOIP) is the official body for trademarks and design registration in the Benelux. BOIP can also record the existence of an idea on a given date in an i-DEPOT.
The old website was hard to find (bad SEO) and if found it was very hard to use. The way the website worked as everything but intuitive; as a visitor finding the right content wasn’t easy. The way the website was set up didn’t have the end user in sight at all.
Kaliber was in charge of UX and design, SWIS did the development.
About the project
Starting point
The number of registrations at BOIP were low, especially the registrations from the Netherlands. A lot of small and medium-sized companies are not aware that they should protect and guard their brands, designs and intellectual property.
The old website was hard to find (bad SEO) and if found it was very hard to use. The right content was buried deep in the website and the way the website worked wasn’t very intuitive. When the old website was built they didn’t have the end user in sight.
The following targets where set for the new website:

Increase awareness of entrepreneurs about IP and brands (making IE relevant)

Image: profiling as an IP knowledge expert & increase brand awareness;

The corporate website has a knowledge base, for which the different target groups are get them relevant information (infographics, reports, films, etc.).
The following KPI’s were set:

The number of new visits to the website in 2017 with a minimum of 10% increase compared to the average number of visits in 2013-2015

Increase the conversion of trademark registrations by at least 1% compared to the average conversion in 2013-2015
Results in the first month

Organic traffic increased with almost 23%

Bouncerates on the most important landingspages dropped to an average of 5%!!

Major increase in overall SEO scores

The ‘register my brand’ had 89% new sessions
Challenges
The real technical challenge was the way the CMS was set up. BOIP has been given even more flexibility and freedom than is the default in Drupal. They can manage/edit the entire homepage without compromising the design and/or interface. Also, the website has an integration with the BOIP back-office software called MyBoip. This is the personal webspace for BOIP’s clients.
