SeCan is the largest supplier of certified seed to Canadian farmers with more than 600 independent seed business members from coast to coast engaged in seed production, processing and marketing. SeCan has more than 375 varieties across the major field crops, including cereals, oilseeds, pulses, special crops, grasses, and legumes.
SeCan felt their website needed to better communicate their mission, their wide range of products, and the impact of their services in Canada. In addition, the old version of CMS made the site difficult to maintain and challenging for adding new content. They partnered with LN Webworks to build a best-in-class application for their customers.
The Approach
We applied our user-centric philosophy to SeCan’s reimagined site, creating easy user pathways, while ensuring our design remains functional instead of just looking good.
We started with the user flow diagrams then wire-framing and finally the mockup to put life in the site. For the backend, we suggested to use the Drupal 8, as its a content rich site and nothing can beat Drupal here.
Displaying huge number of Retailers was a road block
We identified that showing all the retailers on a single page with fast loading time was a road block for us, due to the google map time, customised pins etc. So instead of showing all the data at once, we load the retailers in multiple calls.
About the project
The Challenge
SeCan’s website was complex for both customers and content editors. There was a need for better & user centered design. As most of their customers are old aged farmers with very limited access to new & upgraded systems. Regular update in varieties and maintaining listing of all products with multiple filters was challenging too.
SeCan’s existing site had grown complex and difficult to navigate.
Results
The new site powerfully communicates the SeCan’s mission and expertise to farmers of Canada, and the flexible technology solution makes it easier for farmers to find the products and retailers nearbuy. As a result, SeCan can make an even greater impact on Canada in the years to come.
Why Drupal was chosen
A Flexible and Scalable CMS - Drupal 8
We helped SeCan in upgrading their CMS to Drupal 8, which is the best choice for content rich websites. We also created a modular design system, enabling internal teams to easily manage the content within the CMS.
- The company’s team needed some complex CMS-like features along with the ability to browse for the vendors.
- There were also plans for payment gateway integration at a later stage of the project.
