The relaunch of the SOS-Kinderdorf Schweiz website and online donation shop marks a significant step in enhancing the organization’s digital presence. Built on Drupal 10, the platform was designed to provide an engaging and seamless journey for donors, guiding them from content exploration (storytelling and awareness) through commerce (donations) to community involvement (sharing and advocacy).
The goal was to create a platform that inspires users to explore the organization’s work, actively contribute through donations, and share content with others. This relaunch sets the stage for increased digital engagement and long-term growth in online fundraising.
About the project
The project focused on creating a user-friendly platform with multiple donation options. A core feature is the Quick Donation Form, enabling fast and straightforward contributions by allowing donors to select an amount and choose between one-time or recurring donations.
For more targeted support, the platform offers the option to donate towards specific purposes, such as providing seeds for families or supporting educational projects. Extensive filtering options help users find causes that align with their interests, creating a more personalized and meaningful donation experience. Additionally, sponsorships can be set up, including the option to gift them to others, with gift certificates automatically generated as PDF documents, offering a convenient and thoughtful way to share support.
Both targeted donations and sponsorships are powered by Drupal Commerce, ensuring smooth management of complex processes while maintaining a seamless user experience.
A custom API was developed to streamline the platform’s e-commerce operations by sendig order and customer data to the client’s ERP system. This ensures that all donor information is accurately tracked and each donation is correctly assigned to the appropriate accounting line. This API ensures efficient data handling and supports the scalability of the platform.
Beyond facilitating donations, the platform plays a key role in showcasing SOS-Kinderdorf projects. Through detailed content and storytelling, it highlights the organization’s initiatives, fostering awareness and inspiring users to engage with their mission on a deeper level.
Why Drupal was chosen
Drupal was selected as the foundation for the SOS-Kinderdorf Schweiz platform due to its exceptional flexibility and scalability. Its robust ecosystem of modules, particularly Drupal Commerce, provided the ideal tools to implement a sophisticated donation shop seamlessly integrated with content and community features. This allowed the platform to meet the organization’s complex requirements while remaining adaptable for future enhancements and growth.
