The KNIME AG is a software company that provides solutions for big data analytics. The main product of KNIME is free and open source software which has attracted a worldwide community over the years. In addition to the main product - the KNIME Analytics Platform - KNIME provides fee-based extensions (licenses, SaaS).
The software is, for example, used in pharmaceutical research, business intelligence, financial data analysis or customer relationships management.
After the purely technical relaunch of the whole KNIME website and the new community forum, it was the "software" top level menu item's turn.
About the project
The new software category pages
The software category page is enormously important for the understanding of all KNIME open source software products which together form a whole ecosystem consisting of free, fee-based and also external products.That is why restructuring, redesigning, recategorizing of the product information and also the creation of product icons has been preponed with respect to redesigning the other parts of the website.
The result was a newly structured and designed top level section of the website. As part of the project, we created product logos, product key visuals, an info graphic explaining the software ecosystem and lots of other design elements and ui components.
New header, new mobile navigation, new buttons...
Further optimizations covering the whole website were e.g. new buttons, a new page header and a new navigation (it's now completely resonsive and optimized for mobile use).
Why Drupal was chosen
The previous website was using Drupal 6 so it was a logical decision to migrate all of the users and content to Drupal 8. The migration itself already took place in early 2017 and everything went quite smoothly with ~25K users and tens of thousands of nodes by utilizing the migrate tools with drush.

We often use bootstrap as it is a mature and solid framework for building websites.
As for the paragraphs module: it was extremely helpful here as the pages in question consist of different reoccurring sections that have the same structure in common. Paragraphs is a means of organizing content like that in a very nice way.
