Organizations Involved

The U.S. Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) is an independent agency in the executive branch of the Federal government. The RRB’s primary function is to administer comprehensive retirement, survivor, unemployment and sickness insurance benefit programs for railroad workers and their families under the Railroad Retirement Act and the Railroad Unemployment Insurance Act. These programs provide income protection during old age in the event of disability, death, temporary unemployment, and sickness. The RRB has a long history of providing excellent customer service to its annuitants and is committed to paying the right benefits to the right people, in the right amounts, in a timely manner. The RRB also administers aspects of the Medicare program and has administrative responsibilities under the Social Security Act and Internal Revenue Code.

About the project

The Railroad Retirement Board is acquired contract services including a Drupal subject-matter expert to upgrade the RRB public facing website, www.rrb.gov from Drupal version 8 to Drupal version 9 prior to its end of life in November 2021. RRB required the contractor to successfully migrate the RRB.GOV web site in all 3 environments (Staging, Test and Production) to Drupal version 9 by October 2021.

Working with the federal government requires compliance with Federal laws and standards including electronic records management, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), privacy, plain language, and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
