The Municipal Insurance Association of British Columbia (MIABC) invests in communities across British Columbia so that they can invest in themselves. They aim to empower these unique communities by providing valuable insurance information, outreach programs, insurance policies and much more. They strive to meet their vision of a province in which communities not only have the means to grow, but also the freedom to thrive, enriching the lives of British Columbians in the process. Upanup has been fortunate to work with MIABC on various projects including promotional videos, custom website design and development projects, and content services.
About the project
MIABC is continuously searching for ways to provide value to and make meaningful connections with its members. After it was discovered that users and members were having difficulties navigating the site and finding the information they were looking for they determined it was time for a website redesign project. They also used this opportunity to enhance their content across their site and implement a staff intranet (view this news post about reasons to implement an intranet) to improve internal workflows. We provided content services that included auditing, reviewing, and re-writing their web content - this involved not only content writing but creating engaging visuals and page layouts.
Post-launch of their website and intranet, MIABC was looking for new and innovative tools to provide an added value for their members on the website and create efficiencies for members that are consistently using their services. They also wanted a new and creative way to engage with their members during the challenges of COVID-19.
We worked with MIABC to determine the different aspects of their brand. We created custom illustrations, textures, and a digital style guide to organize the different components of their existing brand guide (view our news post on the importance of a brand guide) while using the branding foundation they provided. This allowed us to create a custom and cohesive design for the intranet and public-facing website that accurately met MIABC's identity and created consistency across their various channels. We designed their website first and then used it for the intranet design resulting in consistency and easy navigation for users.
Upanup provided content services to MIABC including a content audit, review and re-write. The content audit allowed us to gain a complete understanding of each page within the website and where pages could be combined or removed. We created a new sitemap, engaging visuals, a content guide and various page layouts to ensure their content was accessible, relevant, consistent and easily found by users.
MIABC holds an annual Conference (see MIABC events here) and determined it would be a wonderful opportunity to connect with their audiences and support the initiative. We were also involved in creating their video that was centred around the theme of "What is Resiliency?" to be displayed at their event.
Their new website, miabc.org, was successfully launched and has tiered access, ensuring certain information is hidden from the public and is only accessible by members. It also features quick links for easy navigation and refreshed content throughout the site. They have received positive feedback from member organizations regarding the looks and navigation of the website.
Their intranet project was completed prior to the public website. The design elements that were used ensure it seamlessly complements the public site and provides staff with valuable information from anywhere. It is also an excellent tool for keeping their team connected and organized.
The "What is Resiliency?" video included custom animations and graphics that matched MIABC's branding. We included personalized video messages from MIABC's internal team members talking about what resiliency means to them. The video is uplifting and an excellent way to engage and connect with their audiences. To continuously improve the MIABC website and provide useful tools to their members we are currently creating a unique interactive liability tool for their website. This tool is in the development stages and will streamline the liability coverage process, in turn creating efficiencies for their members and their internal staff.
Why Drupal was chosen
Drupal was chosen as the CMS because MIABC's employees were having difficulty navigating the site and finding information. They needed a powerful CMS that would allow their content editors to easily update the site's content, images and menus. They also wanted an intranet developed for their staff and we knew the Drupal CMS has the flexibility and scalability to be an excellent CMS for both a public website and an intranet.
