LMS development for Artec 3D Academy

Artec 3D is a developer and manufacturer of innovative 3D scanning hardware and software with headquarters in Luxembourg. The company also has offices in the USA, China, and Montenegro. Artec 3D’s products and services are used in various industries, including engineering, healthcare, entertainment, education, and fashion, with notable clients such as Toyota, Tesla, Airbus, NASA, Apple, and Ikea.

Recognizing an additional opportunity to expand their audience through training, they opened Atrec Academy to offer industry-specific courses on 3D scanning and printing. 

The new system should educate printer users and resellers on how to work with Artec 3D products and include the following features among other things:

• Courses with training videos

• Knowledge testing tasks

• Certification upon successful course completion

• Login using a separate authentication system

Discovery

Our team initiated discussions with Artec to understand their requirements better. The customer wanted to create an LMS that replicates the functionality and user experience of their current system, Thinkific, but within the Drupal environment. Upon reflection, Artec Academy decided to opt for a pre-built LMS based on Drupal. They selected Opigno LMS as their platform of choice.

Implementation

Attico’s team developed an MVP in just 2 days and upon receiving the customer’s approval, advanced to the LMS development, with the implementation time estimated at around 300–400 hours. 

Our primary objective was to ensure a seamless transition for end users from the main website to the training site. We successfully created a continuous user experience, making it feel as though visitors were still on the same site, despite being on a different one.

Another important aspect was content management. We ensured that the admin interfaces of both sites were similar, allowing the client’s content managers to navigate and manage the new system without noticing any significant differences.

The Artec Academy’s learning solution built on Opigno LMS boasts a comprehensive array of features:

• Synchronization with the main site

Communication between the main site and the Academy is streamlined through a mono-repository implementation. This allows for quick switching between design versions and ensures that changes made on the main site are automatically reflected on the Artec Academy site.

• MyArtec authorization

Artec 3D utilizes its proprietary MyArtec authorization system for user management. For Artec Academy, we developed a module that enables login through MyArtec, facilitating the seamless transfer of user data to the system.

• Courses and modules

The system supports the creation and participation in training courses, which are divided into modules containing various tasks. Users can monitor their progress with detailed statistics for each task.

• Certification

Users can receive a certificate in PDF format upon completing a course.

• Single sign-on (SSO)

SSO is available to ensure users do not have to repeatedly enter their credentials, simplifying access to the system.

• H5P compliance

The platform supports H5P, a framework for creating and embedding interactive content, ensuring all necessary training materials can be uploaded and utilized effectively.

Results

The integration of the Opigno LMS within Artec’s existing Drupal infrastructure effectively met the company’s need for a seamless, unified platform.
