Organizations Involved

Leonidas is a -legendary- Belgian chocolate company founded in 1913. Today, the brand is present in 32 countries and has more than 1000 points of sale. The company has a strong reputation and has been certified purveyor to the Belgian royal Palace.

WebstanZ was appointed by Leonidas in 2019 to support, maintain and progressively take over their digital ecosystem. Although the corporate website was freshly released with Drupal 8, too many expectations were not yet met. 

About the project

Taking into account client’s feedback (content editors, IT manager, digital manager, product manager,...), we improved the overall usability of the back office by automating synchronization with their SAP Product Catalogue & POS DB. 

  • The content is personalised according to market and language ( x markets,  x languages)

  • Synchronisation with SAP
  • Tagging of each product to automate their publishing in various contexts
  • Promotional pages of seasonal campaigns;

We paid special attention to the UX of the admin interface in order to provide intuitive and easy-to-use authoring tools to streamline the publishing process.

As leading digital agency, WebstanZ helps Leonidas to translate above-the-line campaigns for the digital world, top topical events when chocolate is the gift of reference: Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day,… Campaigns include, among other things, advertising displays, television spots. For each of them, we create a dedicated page aligned with the design of the campaign and we also adapt the style of the homepage according to the topic of the campaign. Our development team used a modular approach and built specific tools to manage page design takeovers.

Selection range subsite 

To support the launch of the luxury “Séléction” range, part of the site was completely fitted out to highlight new products. These exceptional products are organised in 2 large groups: Pralines and Nougatines. The main page lists all Séléction range products. Each product has its own characteristic page, detailing its composition and showing its style. These pages consist of paragraphs developed by WebstanZ, through which the client's marketing team can intuitively build pages in a flexible way.

Contests mini sites

When it comes to brand activation and consumer engagement, Leonidas periodically  partners with other companies to organize contests. For example; tickets for Tomorrowland or for the theme amusement park Asterix,... It can be a picture or a quizz contest. WebstanZ developed a solution based on the Drupal Webform module which is completely reusable. For each contest, the basic form (picture or quizz) can be set up instantly.

If necessary we add additional fields and adapt the design for the contest. As these questionnaires are based on users personal data, we make sure Leonidas complies with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). 

Data is collected and interfaced with Leonidas KPI’s dashboards as well as their Google analytics to monitor conversion rate and optimize the efficiency of each campaign.

Page Loading Optimization

We set up a system called Fastly Edge Cloud Platform, which is a Real-time CDN (Content Delivery Network) to display the pages already pre-saved in the Web cache. 

At the same time, WebstanZ developed a solution called Pictures. It allows the browser to automatically choose the version of an image displayed on a page,  the most suitable actually. The resolution of the image depends on user's environment , if for example he has a retina display; if he is on wifi or with 4G. Only one version of the image is loaded making the loading much faster.

Search Engine Optimization

We were also mandated by Leonidas to manage SEO based on technical recommendations provided by SEO consultants. 

Different Drupal modules have been installed and configured  to improve SEO, including the Metatag module covering Facebook, Hreflang, Open Graph, Twitter cards, Verification, as well as Simple XML sitemap.
