In 2019, the Institute of Research and Development (IRD) is celebrating its 75th anniversary. It was the opportunity for the institute to rebuild its institutional website and to create a new website as a scientific news platform called : “IRD Le Mag’”: https://lemag.ird.fr/
About the project
For the institutional site, the goal was to propose a site with a strong graphic identity while being an intuitive and effective communication and contribution tool. The final challenge was to combine it with an "Intranet" functionality allowing connected users to access premium content as well as a personalised home page and dedicated menus.

For IRD Le Mag’, the goal was to propose a new hub of scientific news with editorial features such as the addition of footnotes, a publication workflow and the highlighting of authors or scientific references linked to articles.

Drupal multisite architecture has been used to implement these two websites.
Why Drupal was chosen
Client wanted to get out of eZ Publish and initially wanted a news platform with a modern design while being able to contribute pages easily.
Technical Specifications
Drupal version:
Key modules/theme/distribution used:
- Paragraph module: reduces the number of content types and therefore the number of page templates by ensuring modularity of contribution.
- Entity Share light module: custom module (not generic) but developed because the use of Entity share imposes a lot of constraints on content types, which were not possible in our case. Entity Share Light allows in particular that the contents are not strictly identical on the two sites whose contents are shared.
- Search API SolR + Facets : important functionalities for the client. Choice of SolR because good integration in Drupal.
