Community contributions

The architecture relies heavily on Paragraphs and Media, and was a catalyst for developing the Stories module.

History Colorado is a twenty-first-century historical society. Established in 1879, the organization offers public access to extensive cultural and heritage resources of Colorado. Its work is vast: it encompasses statewide museums; special programs for individuals and families; collection stewardship of Colorado’s historic treasures; educational resources for schools, students and teachers; services related to preservation, archaeology and history; and the Stephen H. Hart Research Library.

From promoting specific museums and publishing digital exhibits, to providing access to research material and hosting preservation resources, History Colorado needed a digital platform that would powerfully deliver rich, incredibly diverse content to an equally diverse audience.

About the project

History Colorado needed to create a compelling, unified experience for its diverse audiences and broad content offering. It needed a platform for telling often-complex stories beautifully, without sacrificing usability or maintainability.

Why Drupal was chosen

The team at History Colorado already had experience with Drupal and was interested in leveraging their existing investment in the platform. More specifically, Drupal’s fieldable entity model provided the flexibility they needed for presenting broad, diverse content. Drupal’s powerful publishing tools, extendable framework, massive developer community and open source licensing were also huge draws for the platform.
