Community contributions
As part of developing gdi.ch, we created patches and contributed to modules such as Drupal Commerce, Bricks, and Paragraphs.
The Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute is an independent Think Tank in consumption, economics and society and a premium event location located in Zurich, Switzerland.
On gdi.ch, two user groups are served with information and can convert to customers of the GDI: First, visitors can find information about the current research of the Think Tank and buy the resulting studies in the integrated webshop. Second, visitors interested in hosting an event at the GDI can gather more information about the premium event location and get in contact with the GDI team via different channels.
In 2018, it became apparent that the former website was not fulfilling the requirements of GDI any more. Therefore, a relaunch project was initiated. After the assessment of different vendors, Unic's solution based on Drupal 8 and Drupal Commerce 2 was chosen as the basis for the new website.
Unic is responsible for the concept, UX design, implementation, SEO, digital analytics, and hosting as well as the ongoing support of gdi.ch.
About the project
With the web relaunch of gdi.ch, the GDI team wanted to enhance the experience of the website's users and make the premium content and offered services more accessible. Additionally, the old website should be replaced with a modern framework and UI to enable the efficient extension in the future.
To benefit from both target user groups (research and event location), a new concept was developed to incorporate the different sections into one website and create upselling possibilities. Additionally, a tagging concept was created to create rich and well-performing content around the key research areas. Furthermore, the commerce requirements were met using Drupal Commerce with a custom integration into the customer's ERP system.
Targets of the project
- Replacement of former CMS to increase adaptability by using a more flexible framework
- Modern design and UX
- Satisfy and convert visitors of both user groups (research and event location)
- Search engine optimization and further analytics integration
Why Drupal was chosen
- Combination of content and commerce functionality
- High adaptability of the framework
- Enhanced styling possibilities compared to other commerce frameworks
- Open source and modern technology stack
- Existing functionality and modules can be leveraged compared to custom implementation
