Cyclocross? Downhill? Family Ride?

Where to go next summer?
Fancy cycling?
Where is it especially nice?

For our longtime customer Radweg-Reisen GmbH we designed and implemented a whole family of so-called destination websites. All these destination websites are based upon the same codebase.

radweg-reisen โ€“ Roadmap

Fast - Easy - Clear

We have paid special attention to the target group:
Cyclists like it easy and light - this is reflected by the design of the site.

Information is clearly structured and quickly accessible. The website makes you want to explore the region โ€ฆ and the booking of the next biketour is just a click away.

Renting bicycles, organizing luggage transport, ordering information material or browsing through the main catalogue ... The services of the competent tour operator are completely on display.

About the project

The existing CMS (Drupal 6) has been replaced with Drupal 8.
Overall, the relaunch should rise the conversions for www.radweg-reisen.com
That means:

  • Optimized visibility in search engines โœ”
  • New, modern layout โœ”
  • Easy booking procedure โœ”
  • Good and quick overview of the different tours โœ”
  • All destination websites should be based on the same code โœ”

Why Drupal was chosen

We have used Drupal previously on various projects and know how to create customized websites that are really fitting the customer's needs.

Drupal 8 is certainly a powerful tool for web CMS and provides great features for online travel catalogues.
So โ€“ that's why we use it:

  • The Drupal framework provides a lot of common CMS functionality 'out-of-the-box' and these functionalities are important requirements for our clients.
  • We also had to make sure that the framework chosen was flexible enough to fully accommodate the complex business logic we had to deal with in this project.

Why these modules/theme/distribution were chosen

THUNDER
Thunder is a Drupal 8 distribution for professional publishing. It consists of the current Drupal 8 functionality, lots of handpicked publisher-centric modules with custom enhancements, and an environment which makes it easy to install, deploy and add new functionality.

WEBFORMS
Webform is the module for making forms and surveys in Drupal. After a submission customizable e-mails can be sent to administrators and/or submitters. Results can be exported into Excel or other spreadsheet applications. Webform also provides some basic statistical review and has an extensive API for expanding its features.

PARAGRAPHS
This module provides flexibility to associate data with a node in terms of frontend positioning and variants in different fields. It is a wonderful module for a multi-tenant website to have individual homepages or landing pages with different layouts and fields variants.

IMAGE CROP
Provides an interface for using the features of the Crop API. This element provides an UX for using a crop on all fields images or file elements. This module has particularity to purpose capability to crop the same image by โ€œCrop typeโ€ configured. Itโ€™s very useful for editorial sites or media management sites.

BLIZZ DYNAMIC ENTITYLIST
This module provides editorial users an easy way to define dynamic lists of teasers using a simple interface.

VIEWS
Views can do a lot more than that, but those are some of the obvious uses of Views:

  • You like the default front page view, but you find you want to sort it differently.
  • You like the default taxonomy/term view, but you find you want to sort it differently; for example, alphabetically.
  • You use /tracker, but you want to restrict it to posts of a certain type.
  • You like the idea of the 'article' module, but it doesn't display articles the way you like.
  • You want a way to display a block with the 5 most recent posts of some particular type.
  • You want to provide 'unread forum posts'.
  • You want a monthly archive similar to the typical Movable Type/Wordpress archives that displays a link to the in the form of "Month, YYYY (X)" where X is the number of posts that month, and displays them in a block. The links lead to a simple list of posts for that month.
