Sector(s)
International auction house Bonhams first engaged Inviqa in order to design, develop, and carry out a total rebranding of their main global website.
The success we had together on this initial project led to another opportunity within their motoring department which is famous for auctioning rare and highly collectable motor cars in conjunction with some of the most distinguished motoring events in the world.
They faced the problem of being unable to support the auction and sales of more modern and modestly priced collectors’ vehicles. They wanted a new, low-cost operating model and to enter into this highly competitive marketplace as soon as possible. We rapidly delivered the platform and as a result they were able to expand their market presence and reach a lucrative new audience.
About the project
Bonhams' challenge
The motor car department could not support the auction and sales of more current and modestly priced collectors’ cars and required a new, low-cost operating model to bring the company's heritage into this market.
Bonhams needed an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) that would:
- Allow them to rapidly enter the mid-market motorcar collectors’ market
- Operate a low-cost business model that had self-serve and automation
- Display their values through a distinct offering and brand
- Enable car sellers to upload information and digitally submit their vehicles for consideration by Bonhams' experts
What was done
In only five weeks, the Inviqa team designed, built, and launched a dedicated website for their new proposition, Bonhams MPH.
The MVP has a similar look and feel to the main Bonhams site but provides a distinct offering.
The website combines a powerful CMS, based on Drupal 8, with ecommerce functionality, powered by Drupal Commerce, enabling sellers to learn about the service, submit their vehicles for review, track progress, view upcoming auctions, and pay upfront fees – all done via a unified digital touchpoint.
On the backend, the Bonhams team has the ability to review and update submitted cars via the admin console with key parts of the workflow now digitised as well as driving time and cost savings.
The work we did covered:
- A Drupal 8 site build and customisation
- Rebuild of the Drupal 8 Worldpay integration module
- Developing a scalable platform that other teams within the business could use
- Harnessing the Drupal Commerce module to create a multi-stage submission form
- Implementing a backend console and ecommerce payment gateway
We had a great experience on this project as did our partners at Bonhams, with the Head of Bonhams MPH, Ron Hubbard stating:
The experience with Inviqa has been very good. Our client partner Ady very quickly grasped the key elements of the project and, together with the team, delivered the product in the tight timeframe. We’re now enjoying a purpose-built platform that’s bringing in business.
Why Drupal was chosen
Bonhams were looking for a powerful CMS with ecommerce functionality that could provide sellers with the ability to learn about the service, submit their vehicles for consideration and much more. Drupal ticked all the boxes and was chosen as a result.
