The war in Ukraine has disrupted everything in Ukraine including jobs and the economy. In an effort to prevent a brain drain of scientists in Ukraine and help bring attention to short-term, remote, economic opportunities for scientists in Ukraine, CRDF Global created uascience.crdfglobal.org.
The aim of this site is to provide Ukrainian scientists in need with a consolidated source of employment opportunities that can sustain their career until the war is over. The opportunities on this site are largely shorter term, research focused positions that will allow postdoctoral scientists to continue in their field.
While most of the listed opportunities are on location throughout Europe, we are working to provide as many remote listings as possible for those in need of them. For those who would like a more tailored experience, please utilize the “Request Assistance” feature and our team will reach out and work with you to find a position suited for your needs and relevant to your experience.

About the project
The goal was to acquire remote, short-term, scientific opportunities from organizations around the world and consolidate these into a centralized database to allow scientists in Ukraine to search, filter, and sort these opportunities. The website needed to be stood up in a little more than 2 weeks for a budget of less than $25,000 USD. The site also needed to allow scientists in Ukraine to request access and authenticate their email address before being permitted to access the database.
Why Drupal was chosen
We needed a secure content management system (CMS) that facilitated structured content, database queries, and reporting to allow the organize to collect, store, search, filter, and present scientific opportunities for scientists of Ukraine. Drupal had all the features for this requirement and due to its community-contributed modules and themes, the site was able to be stood up in a matter of days on a shoestring budget.
